Sustainable hybrid power delivery for the Coburn mineral sands project
Pacific Energy owns and operates a 34MW hybrid power station supplying energy to Strandline Resources’ Coburn mineral sands project in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region.
The integrated system includes 12MW of solar generation, two 2MW battery energy storage systems, an 18MW high-efficiency, low-emissions gas plant, and a 1,100kl LNG storage and regasification facility. Together, these assets deliver reliable, cost-effective power while reducing exposure to fuel price volatility.
Solar generation provides more than 30% of the site’s electricity needs, significantly lowering both operating costs and carbon emissions. The project demonstrates the value of combining renewable energy with thermal generation and storage to deliver secure, sustainable power for large-scale mining operations.
