Advancing Northern Star’s decarbonisation at Carosue Dam
Pacific Energy built the power station at Northen Star Resources’ Carosue Dam Operations in 2009 and has owned and operated the asset ever since. The station is equipped with Pacific Energy’s proprietary dual-fuel engine technology, which enables up to 80% gas substitution, and provides operational flexibility, reduces reliance on diesel, and gives mine owners greater control over fuel supply security and costs.
Building on this foundation in 2024, Pacific Energy integrated 8MW of solar generation into the power system to support Northern Stars’ decarbonisation objectives. Completed in March 2025, the solar installation can meet 7% of the site’s annual energy needs, cutting carbon emissions by around 9,000 tonnes each year, and delivering fuel cost savings upwards of $2.7 million annually.
The solar upgrades demonstrate the economic and environmental value of renewable integration within existing power systems and represent a significant step forward in Northern Star’s transition to lower-carbon operations.
