Powering 10 regional Victorian communities with compressed natural gas
Pacific Energy’s hydrogen and renewable gas division partnered with Enwave Australia to deliver the Victorian Regional Energy (VRE) project — an $84 million initiative supported by the Victorian Government to secure gas supply for 10 regional towns across Victoria.
Pacific Energy designed, supplied, installed and commissioned all 10 delivery sites, as well as the Bendigo mother station. The facility incorporates two KwangShin compressors to pressurise natural gas to 250 bar into Hexagon multi-element gas containers (MEGCs). The CNG is transported by road and delivered via Hexagon’s mobile pipeline model, where it is decompressed and reticulated into the towns’ local gas networks.
This project has successfully supplied compressed natural gas to regional Victorian communities for over six years, strengthening local energy security and resilience. A second mother station, now operational in Geelong, provides further reliability and creates a pathway for the potential integration of renewable natural gas (RNG) into the future energy mix.
