Partnering with QUT to deliver an award-winning H2Xport Pilot Plant
Pacific Energy’s hydrogen team partnered with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to help deliver the award-winning H2Xport Pilot Plant at the Redlands Research Facility in Brisbane.
The 50kW modular system is powered by locally produced solar energy and extracts hydrogen from non-drinkable water sources, including seawater. The facility integrates battery storage, a microgrid, hydrogen production and utilisation, and has successfully demonstrated a portable hydrogen refuelling station for cars and buses.
Pacific Energy was engaged to design and install key system components, including a Nel electrolyser and PowerCell fuel cell, bringing modular hydrogen generation technology from concept to reality. The project highlights the potential of green hydrogen as a clean fuel and as a flexible energy solution for diverse applications.
In recognition of its innovation and impact, the H2Xport Pilot Plant received the Zero Carbon Hydrogen Award at the 2025 Smart Energy Council Awards.
