Pacific Energy builds its biggest solar farm yet at St Ives mine
In 2024, Pacific Energy was engaged by Gold Fields to design and construct a 35MW solar farm for the St Ives gold mine, located south of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The solar farm is part of Gold Fields’ A$296 million St Ives Renewables Project, which also includes 42MW of wind power. Together, the system is expected to power the mine with more than 70% renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions by around 50% by 2030.
As the largest solar project Pacific Energy has ever been commissioned to deliver, the farm will account for nearly half of St Ives’ renewable energy contribution. The design incorporates scalability, enabling Gold Fields to expand solar generation capacity quickly in line with future decarbonisation targets.
The system scheduled to be fully operational in 2026.
