Pacific Energy lands first NSW-based power agreement at Tronox’s Atlas-Campaspe mine
In 2024, Pacific Energy signed a 10-year build-own-operate agreement with Tronox to power its Atlas–Campaspe mineral sands mine near Hatfield. The project, completed in 2025, comprises a 26MW hybrid power system, and was Pacific Energy’s first in the state of New South Wales.
The Atlas system includes an 11MW solar farm, a 3MW/6MWh battery energy storage system, 12MW of diesel generation and 13km of high-voltage powerlines. By consolidating 41 distributed diesel generators into a single, integrated facility, the system will provide up to 40% renewable energy to site operations.
This transition is expected to cut Tronox’s annual carbon emissions by around 13,000 tonnes and reduce diesel consumption by nearly five million litres per year. Designed with flexibility for future expansion, the project demonstrates Pacific Energy’s ability to deliver innovative hybrid solutions that improve efficiency, lower costs and support long-term decarbonisation.
